Oscar Mayer Weinermobile Gets Ripped Off In Las Vegas
Only in Las Vegas…during a visit over this past weekend, the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile got ripped off. During a tour of goodwill over the weekend, someone actually got underneath the vehicle and actually sawed off the catalytic converter. A subject that The Mike & Carla Morning Show jumped on immediately this morning!
Evidently this has been a problem here in Clark County that others have been the victim of, but the Weinermobile? Luckily, Joseph Rodriguez, the Parts Administrator at Penske, got the call and was able to help out. It wasn’t something that was easy to do, but with the right parts, some elbow grease, things went well and the job got done. After just a few hours, the “hot dog” was on the road.
According an article published late last year in the Kelly Blue Book regarding this very same thing. The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that close to 1300 Americans told their insurance company that their car’s catalytic converter had been stolen in 2018. Over the next couple of years, catalytic converter theft was up to almost 15,000 and has since jumped to 25,969 in 2022.
Mike O’Brian’s own daughter came out of work only to catch someone trying to do the same thing. Luckily she scared them enough to leave the converter dangling off the bottom of her car. Just one of many cases in Clark County reported…in fact more that 2,600 catalytic converters were reported stolen in the metro area during 2022. A 72% increase from the year before and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
Why all of a sudden? Evidently these parts contain precious metals that can be turned into cash very quickly. On the other hand, there are pros and cons of the piece remaining on your vehicle, but that story is for another day. The bottom line is, why the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile?
