D.W.S.: Driving While Sleeping – It’s A Thing
We certainly hope you are never cited for D.W.S. – Driving While Sleeping.
According to an article written by KTVU Staff and posted on Dallas-Forth Worth’s Fox4News.com, a woman was recorded on video sleeping at the wheel of her Tesla on I-15 in and around Temecula, California. This woman obviously had her car in auto-pilot. You can watch this viral video during a KTLA Channel 5 news broadcast which I found on YouTube by CLICKING HERE.
Thank goodness, no accidents were reported in this area, but apparently, this lady, who was driving while sleeping, was so conked out that drivers and passengers in other vehicles on the same freeway could not wake her up. They were honking and screaming, to no avail. Man, that is scary!
Can you imagine being on the same road as someone who is obviously driving while sleeping…or worse? I sure hope she had not passed away at the wheel. Impossible to tell from the video.
Per the Fox4News article, Vasiliki Dolas was driving home to Las Vegas on the I-15 when she noticed a woman fast asleep at the wheel of her Tesla. Sunglasses on, head to one side, mouth slightly open. Dolas recorded the video and followed this Tesla for 15 minutes while trying to wake the driver up with shouts and horn honking. She ended up calling the police, but they never caught up to the woman sleeping while driving.
While I was searching for this viral video on YouTube, I noticed that there was more than one of these recordings which captured people sleeping while driving! Is this becoming a thing? Is it only something that happens with drivers of Teslas or other electric vehicles? I admit, they are pretty quiet.
Anyway, even though the police never caught this driver who was asleep at the wheel in Temecula, law enforcement officials insisted that driving while sleeping is illegal in California. Here in Nevada, you could be arrested for reckless driving at the very least. WAKE UP AND DRIVE! (Sorry, didn’t mean to yell)
