Do you know a smart middle school or junior high school student? Are they really into science? Well then, make sure they know about the $25,000 grand prize up for grabs in this year's "3M Young Scientist Challenge."

According to a press release from Discovery Education and 3M, these two organizations have teamed up to launch the Young Scientist Challenge Alumni Network and Alumni Grants Program. This will be the premiere science competition for science students in grades 5-8.

Karina Chavez, senior vice president and chief strategy officer at 3M, is quoted in the press release as saying: "For 16 years, alongside Discovery Education, we’ve brought science to life through the 3M Young Scientist Challenge. By participating in the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, hundreds of students have been inspired to create world-changing innovations. The Alumni Network and Grants Program are a way to continue supporting and celebrating these tremendous young people that represent the future of science.”

If there is a middle school student you know in grade 5-8 who would like to participate, they can access the "Challenge Application Portal" by clicking here. The 3M Young Scientist Challenge is now open to entrants through April 27, 2023. Participants will be competing "for a mentorship with a 3M scientist, a $25,000 dollar grand prize, and a chance to earn the title of 'America's Top Young Scientist.'"

Previous participants in 3M's Young Scientist Challenge have gone on to achieve great things, including filing patents, founding non-profit organizations, making the Forbes "30 Under 30" list, ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange, and showing their exhibits at the White House Science Fair.

Sounds like a great way to get your middle school student interested in science. And hey, no helping with your kid's science project!
