Looking for a strong relationship? There's a lot that you have to factor into it. If you're a partner or even a friend or colleague, did you know there's a ratio that you should follow to guarantee your relationship with someone stays satisfactory and positive? It's a five to one ratio!

What's the five to one ratio? For every one negative thing done or said, a person needs to say or do five additional things for that person to make up for the one negative. Saying, "You Look Great!" or "Great Job!" are small phrases but count as a positive. If you're a person who is constantly negative towards someone in your life, be prepared to shell out a ton of positives to save your relationship!

If you're wondering where this ratio came from, it was discovered and tested by a man named John Gottman!

Gottman says you need to show interest in your partner and relationship. Show affection, show your care and concern, be appreciative, lighten things up, and aim for more! If you do these things, you won't have to worry about the negatives and you should have a healthy relationship.

Is this a bit much? If you think about it, not really. And the things listed to make the relationship stronger doesn't really require too much effort.  Avoid any type of negativity. Don't be negative! If you're looking to botch your relationship with someone, simply don't be positive. I think we get the point of this.

We have more on this story and others in today's edition of A Few Things You Should Know!
