CES, The Consumer Electronics Show, opens Thursday, January 5 here in Las Vegas, and runs through Sunday, January 8.
Exhibits and press conferences will be held at both the Las Vegas Convention Center and The Venetian Expo. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which organizes CES, is expecting in-person attendance to resemble pre-pandemic totals once again. They are hoping for upwards of 100,000 attendees during the four-day convention. According to an article by Brett Forrest on News3LV.com, CES used to bring in more than 170,000 attendees in peak years.
Exhibition hours are 10am-6pm Thursday, and 9am-6pm Friday through Sunday. Per Forrest's article, "Organizers said the show's imprint this year will feature over 3,200 exhibitors covering 2.1 million square feet of exhibitor space." Allison Fried, a spokesperson for CES, said that this year's convention will mostly focus on solving the world's problems through technology. Some of the highlighted areas of technology which will be featured in exhibits include automotive solutions, digital health solutions, and sustainability-focused solutions.
CES is usually the biggest convention of the year in Las Vegas. It is really a global event, and organizers expect about one-third of the attendees this year to be from outside of the United States. As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic really hit CES, and Las Vegas convention business, very hard. Last year, CES returned in a minor way as an in-person event, with only about 45,000 attendees. Forrest's article notes about last year's show that: "The CTA did opt to end it a day early, and many major brands canceled last minute as the Omicron variant spread."
Many CEO's in the technology industries feel that an in-person Consumer Electronics Show is in very high demand after the pandemic. Face-to-face meetings and networking opportunities are very important to helping their businesses thrive, and virtual electronics shows just did not have as big an impact. Many are really looking forward to CES 2023, which promises to be about 70% larger than last year's show, and organizers have not seen any major cancelations as of yet.
