Believe it or not… The fact that lawmakers could call for a TikTok ban sooner than later is causing talk within many social media platforms! This is the topic of conversation that came up this morning on The Mike & Carla Morning Show . The reason many speculate is further updates regarding National security.
We know this is a shock to a lot of people, but there are a few lawmakers on Capital hill that think since the company that owns the social media platform works out of a country considered to be a “threat” to the U.S., there might be a few problems.
A company in China owns the short-form video app and that’s where the fear in regards to National security begins. The chance of getting data from U.S. users grows…according to a recent article published by CNN, Senator Marco Rubio says, “…The federal government has yet to take a single meaningful action to protect American users from the threat of TikTok,”
Not really sure that has been on the minds of those that strut their stuff, show off their lifestyle or fill the format with their political views, but if the ban comes to pass, rest assured a lot of people will have a lot of free time on their hands! Or, have no problem finding another social media outlet for there seemingly fun videos.
The ban would also affect other social media companies that operated out of other countries that are considered “foreign adversaries” like Russia, Iran, North Korea and more. You should also know that the US military, the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security have already restricted TikTok from devices under their control. So what’s next?
Well, aside from a TikTok ban on some government owned devices, a few states have already started the process themselves that include doing the same in Maryland, South Dakota and Utah.
