It's "National Seat Belt Day".  So if you only buckle up once this year, this might be the day to do it!  The Mike & Carla Morning Show brought this up this morning in "A Few Things We Thing You Should Know" segment reminding listeners that it's not only for your own safety, but it's the law!

Seat belts haven't been a requirement for as long as you'd think.  Believe it or not, New York was the first state to require them 38 years ago in 1984...on the other hand, New Hampshire is the only state where it's still not mandatory for adults.

According to a recent article published by The Zebra, most people wear seat belts now, however, a recent study found there's one situation where we're less likely to wear a seat belt:  28% of us don't always buckle up in UBERS and other rideshares. Most people think that just because you're usually in the back seat, they see as a little less dangerous.  You should also know that we're less likely to buckle up on short trips.

So the next time you do call and take a "ride share", just know that the back seat isn't really that safe though.  Another study found rear-seat riders are eight times more likely to get injured in a crash if they're not buckled up. You can also become a projectile.  So do it for your Uber driver's safety too.  Drivers are twice as likely to be fatally injured in a crash if the person sitting directly behind them isn't buckled in.

All the more reason to buckle up today and everyday, no matter how near or far your drive! The M&C Morning Show also talked about those animals you can actually out run...you might be surprised at how many we can out run.
