CAUTION: Parents, Check Your Kid’s Halloween Candy
Sometimes, people seriously suck. For as long as I can remember, parents have told stories like this. A parent’s ultimate nightmare when it comes to Halloween. Candy that’s been poisoned or otherwise tampered with in some way to hurt kids. Well now it’s actually happened. Multiple razor blades were found embedded in some candy this year after Halloween.
It happened in Eugene, Oregon. Which is about 110 miles south of Portland. Three separate parents called in the incident of finding the razor blades in their kid’s candy. The blades were small, about an inch long, like the ones found in a manual pencil sharpener.
Eugene Police Capt. Chris Harrison said in a news conference Wednesday that the first report came on Halloween night. The next two on Tuesday. All of the blades seemed to be slipped into the candy through a small slit in the wrapper. The candy that was tampered with was two Kit Kat bars and an Almond Joy.
NBC News reported what Harrison said about the reports: “‘One parent was looking through their child’s bag of candy, inspecting it, and happened to notice a small slit in the wrapper of one of the candy bars,’ he said. ‘Thinking that was odd, they investigated a little more and opened the candy wrapper and found a razor blade, a small razor blade that was embedded inside the candy bar.’”
It’s hard to fathom why someone would do this. The Eugene Police Department does not have a suspect in custody at this point. But the department has narrowed down the neighborhood where the candy was probably acquired. They have issued a warning to local residents who may have had their kids trick-or-treat there on Monday night.
Considering the blades were slipped into the candy bars without obviously messing up the wrapper, it would be very easy to miss this. So parents, PLEASE check your kids candy as soon as possible.

Top 10 List: Most Popular Halloween Costume This Year
Halloween this year was lots of fun. And though it was on a Monday (boo!!), there was still parties and trick-or-treating a plenty. And if you’re one of those people who hates showing up to the party in the same outfit as someone else…well let’s just hope you went a little out of the box for your Halloween costume.
Baby Z was really upset last week when she came home from school. There was another student dressed in the same Halloween costume she had. Problem is, Baby Z chose to be Harley Quinn this year. So it’s kind of a given that she would run into others like her. Movies and social media are huge influencers in what we wear for costumes. And we’re all pretty much watching the same thing.
Unless you’re like me and piece together your Halloween costume from random thrift store items. I do it partially to feel creative and partially to save money. I don’t think I’ve ever donned a costume that was completely store-made. I always have to throw some element on that’s DIY.
In my defense, I have a Bachelor’s in Costume and Set Design. So I have high standards for costuming. And these store-bought ones always have some detail missing or wrong that nobody else would ever notice. But I do. And it ruins the whole thing for me. I know what you’re thinking: “Wendy, why do you spend so much time and energy on something you’ll only wear once?”
Well, friend. That’s an excellent question. And I have an excellent answer…I don’t know. I AM one of six girls in my family. And I always grew up in matching outfits. So maybe it’s just taking back my uniqueness. Whoa…I think I just had an epiphany. Hang on, I have to call my therapist.
Here’s the Top 10 list of the most-popular costumes this year, according to USA Today. How many of them did you see last night?
