There's a major road closure about to happen in Las Vegas, and locals aren't happy about it. If you've ever driven around the North Las Vegas area, chances are you've come across one of the most dangerous intersections in Nevada. So dangerous, in fact, that it's about to be closed permanently. Sloan Lane at Las Vegas Boulevard is the intersection in question, and it will see the last of its motorized traffic later this month.

Nellis Air Force Base announced the closure on Monday on its Twitter feed. They cited rapid growth in the area making the area unsafe, saying "the area has become increasingly unsafe".

The tweet referenced an accident that occurred on September 23 that killed two people. A flatbed semi-truck and a Toyota were both driving on Las Vegas Boulevard, in opposite directions. The driver of the Toyota made a left turn at the intersection at Sloan Lane and cut off the semi-truck as it was approaching the intersection. The two vehicles made contact there and the semi-truck continued south and crashed head-on into a wall near Nellis Air Force Base. Both drivers died as a result of the crash.

When the closure happens, the intersection will be blocked off with concrete barriers. There will be solar lights, reflective tape, and signage warning motorists of the closure, lvrj.com reported.

Many people took to Twitter to express their concern about the closure. Some expressed disappointment about the decision, saying the closure was a dramatic reaction to an isolated incident. Others worry about the traffic impediment it will cause the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, who has a correctional facility nearby that needs constant access.

The closure will take effect on November 19. Motorists are being encouraged to plan accordingly.

New Car Feature Stops You From Speeding

Should cars have a feature that prevents you from speeding? Wait, what?

If you're someone with a "need for speed" you probably won't like this idea at all: The National Transportation Safety Board is trying to get car manufacturers to add a feature that would prevent people from breaking the speed limit.

Cars have had what are called "governors" for a long time.  That's where you can't go over a specific top speed.  But it's usually pretty high - around 155 miles an hour.

The new feature that is being talked about uses GPS to pinpoint where you are, check the speed limit, and prevent you from hitting the gas, and going over it. New York City is testing it out with 50 government vehicles.  If you hit the speed limit, an alarm goes off.  Or the accelerator just cuts out until you slow down - which seems really dangerous.

There's an override button that lets you speed for 15 seconds in case you need to merge or meet the flow of traffic.  But that's it. What about when you have to pass someone?

The National Transportation Safety Board is NOT trying to force car companies to do this right now.  But they have talked about wanting the government to start incentivizing them with things like tax breaks, and insurance breaks.

I suspect MOST people WON'T like the idea.  However, I think there's a very good chance all new cars WILL have it someday, whether we like it or not.

In this girl's humble opinion, these are the REAL annoying things cars should prevent drivers from doing
