Slap Fighting Approved In Nevada
The Nevada State Athletic Commission unanimously approved the sport of Slap Fighting here in the Silver State on Tuesday, October 18th.
According to an article posted by Cristen Drummond on News3LV.com, the sport of Slap Fighting is growing, and now it will become a licensed athletic event in Nevada.
What is Slap Fighting? Per Drummond’s article, two combatants take turns slapping each other in the face as hard as they can, until one can’t take it anymore. And, according to the SlapFight.com website, the Slap Fighting Championships have been going on since 2017.
The most recent Slap Fighting Championships were held in Columbus, Ohio back in March of this year. Take a look at some of the highlights.
OUCH!!
UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell is the one who presented the idea for the new league to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Drummond’s posting on News3LV.com went on to state that “the plan is to make the ruleset and structure similar to MMA with medical requirements, weight classes and matchmaking.”
Campbell is forecasting that the first matches could take place as early as April 2023, and they hope to hold them at the UFC’s Apex.
Drummond’s article quotes Nevada State Athletic Commission Chairman Stephen Cloobeck as stating: “This is going to grow combat sports. It’s fantastic. This is what we’re here to do. We’re here to grow the business.”
