Nevada Gas Prices Surge Higher Again
Gas prices in Las Vegas and throughout the state of Nevada have surged higher again in the past couple of weeks. According to a post on News3LV.com, AAA is reporting that gas prices jumped up another 13-cents in recent days. Drivers in Southern Nevada are now paying an average of $5.34 per gallon. That price is 42-cents higher than last week and about 50-cents higher than they were a month ago.
So, we all hear about inflation and the rising cost of just about everything each time we turn on the news or try to purchase something online or in a store. But, we had seen gas prices decrease over the last months of summer. What happened?
Per the article on News3LV.com, the surge in gas prices has been caused by the fact that many refineries in California and Washington have shut down for maintenance purposes. AAA explains that this occurs every few years on a regular basis, usually during the autumn months, when demand for gasoline decreases.
Folks in California are paying the highest gas prices in the nation now, at an average of $6.20 per gallon. We here in Nevada now claim the dubious distinction of paying the second highest gas prices in the USA.Â
I checked out AAA.com to compare gas prices over the past year here in Nevada. A year ago, we were paying an average of $3.89 a gallon for regular unleaded. A month ago we averaged $4.85 per gallon. Just last week, the average prices per gallon here in Las Vegas stood at $5.02 a gallon. Yesterday, gas prices surged to an average of $5.41 a gallon, and they had risen another 6 cents today! That’s a 45-cent increase in just one week!
Today’s national average price for regular unleaded is $3.80. The huge price increases have mainly occurred in the western United States. Hopefully, prices will get back down closer to the national average when those refineries open back up after maintenance operations have been performed. Fingers crossed…

Quite a few more people are going to be in town with the BIG GAME coming up in the next couple of weeks. For that reason, we wanted to remind you of the Top 5 Most Dangerous Intersections in Las Vegas! As you drive around the Valley, and more importantly, around Allegiant Stadium just a couple of things to remember. Slow down and drive defensively in our fair city! The Mike & Carla Morning Show just reminding everyone to pay attention.
In fact, we’ve all notice how more and more people moving here. For locals, you have to keep your head on a swivel! With all of us from all over the country, we all have different driving styles. That might be a reason for a lot of the problems on the roads. But that still doesn’t change the fact that driving throughout our city you really have to pay attention!
The Most Dangerous Intersections in Las Vegas
According to a recent KLAS-Channel 8 report, they found these to be the Top 5 most dangerous intersections in Las Vegas over the years…not much has changed. Before you scroll down, other intersection that we might a little dicey…how about Flamingo and Valley View? A lot of stuff going on there, turn lanes and new businesses being built on that corner. Another one that comes to mind is Tropicana and Paradise. Multiple turn lanes, people coming trying to get to the airport, with Paradise turning into a one way at different points.
Something you might not realize is that a lot of the country’s major roadways are oriented east-to-west. So a lot of us will be driving directly into the sun on our commute. So make sure you are a bit more cautious driving around Las Vegas today and maybe for the next few days as people get adjusted to the new season.
Tips To Help You Drive In Southern Nevada
As crazy as it might sound, it just doesn’t happen today, but it also happens around the spring equinox in March as well. Here are a few things that can help . . .
1. Windex the outside AND inside of your windshield. There’s a lot less glare when it’s clean.
2. Keep sunglasses handy. It’s not summer anymore, but you still need them. Polarized sunglasses work best.
3. Slow down. The sun can still momentarily blind you, even with sunglasses on. And keep in mind that other drivers might be struggling too.
Now if you are new to Vegas, you’ll notice right away how bad traffic can be and how drivers, who come from all over the place, bring those specific driving skills from where they’re from and think everything is just fine. Well, guess what? Driving does get a little hectic around the valley and depending on where you’re headed, a few areas you just might want to avoid as you get used to the traffic here.
