A young Las Vegas woman was stabbed to death this week right next to her infant daughter. As reported by Fox5Vegas, 20-year old Makayla Adams was killed inside her home near MLK and Washington in Las Vegas. According to the report, Adams was recently married and had split with her husband about two months ago. Adams was trying to escape the cycle of domestic abuse that was in the home. Her husband, 24-year old Michael Ricks, was taken into custody for the crime and faces murder charges. The victims parents reported that they got home Tuesday night and found that their window was open. They found Adams inside laying in a pool of blood. Some of the blood covered the infant, who was found unharmed but next to Adams.
Adams was still alive when her parents found her. The tragic report from Fox5Vegas stated this from the victim’s parents: “We open the door, and my daughter was laying on the floor with a bunch of blood [and was] over her baby. My daughter looked at her dad as he grabbed the baby her eyes moved, and a tear fell. That was the end. She waited for us to get home. She waited for us to come get her baby.” The 8-month old infant is now in the custody of her grandparents.
The suspect ran to San Diego after the murder occurred. That’s where he was detained by police on Wednesday. He will be brought back to Las Vegas to face criminal charges. He is also facing a count of violating parole.
A vigil was held Wednesday for Adams, and many family, friends and strangers showed to pay respects to the young mother, who would have turned 21 later this month.
