Theme Weddings Are Very Popular – What Would Yours Be?
Nope – never been married, never wanted to be. But I’ve been in, and been to, dozens of weddings in my life. Church weddings, Justice of the Peace weddings, and even destination weddings, but never a themed wedding.
A poll of 2,000 adults found four in 10 have attended a ceremony, with a theme such as Lord of the Rings or Disney – and 21 per cent have been served takeaway food at the reception. Ok – I like THAT!
Quirky costumes, bizarre cakes and over-the-top dresses are also becoming the latest trends to hit the wedding scene. The poll also showed 29 per cent would like a ‘fantasy wedding’, including the likes Alice in Wonderland, Game of Thrones or Star Trek.
Almost half of those polled say being invited to a themed wedding would make great memories, and an amusing story to tell their friends. While weddings are are generally centered around the bride and groom, they are also about giving their guests an exciting, unforgettable, and entertaining wedding experience, and sharing their big day with their loved ones.
Themed weddings are definitely a thing right now, and the list of themed-weddings people would LIKE to attend is really interesting. It includes “fantasy” like “Lord of the Rings” . . . “music” like rock ‘n’ roll or disco . . . and “Disney.”
Here are the the top wedding themes – in order of popularity – adults say they “would like to attend.”
1. Fantasy: like “Lord of the Rings”, “Game of Thrones”, or “Star Trek”
2. Music: like rock ‘n’ roll, pop, or disco
3. Disney: like Cinderella, Mickey Mouse, or “Lion King”
4. Action heroes: like Marvel, comics, superheroes, or LEGO characters
5. ’80s Era
6. Medieval (Insert” knight in shining armor” puns here)
7. Fast Food-Themed: like KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, or McDonald’s (Americans do love their fast food!)
8. Sports: like football, basketball, tennis, or golf.
9. ’70s Era
10. ’90s Era.
11. Video games: Warcraft, Monopoly, Pac Man etc. (You could actually do games from different eras. as well)
12. 60s era
13. Travel/countries
14. Books
15. Chocolate
16. Drink branded theme: coffee, rum drinks, etc. (This might go deeper than just a theme…)
17. Animal themed: cats, dogs etc.
18. 50s era
19. Western
20. Gothic
All of these sound like a lot of fun. If you want to do something different, and memorable for all, do a theme wedding. Open bar, of course….
