How Many Holes Does A Straw Really Have
The big debate on Twitter over the weekend is how many holes does a straw have? Now 54% of those surveyed said that a typical, run of the mill straw has one hole and you would think that they would be right. However, 42% of people say that a straw really has two holes…one at each end of course.
On The Mike & Carla Morning Show this morning, Carla Rea truly believes there are NO holes in a straw, because if there were, you wouldn’t be able to suck anything out of your drink! So, one would say that you have an “opening”, but there is NO hole(s) in a regular straw…or irregular straw for that matter!
Now, one might argue that there are two holes in a straw…being at either end. But are there really? Scientifically, again, if there were any holes in your straw, how would you be able to suck anything through it?
Why would this be so important? Well, consider that we use an estimated 50o million straws per day in the U.S. and if you go one step further, the average person between the ages of 5 to 65 will use about 38,000 straws in there lifetime! You consider that straws are deep in history being invented in 1888, just think of how fun it would be to drink a milk shake without one? Your favorite soda or even a smoothie? Created by American Marvin C. Stone, the straw is as much apart of our society and average lifestyle as toilet paper…so maybe the debate of how many holes does the straw have is not so outrageous?
We’re sure that it doesn’t really matter what type of straw you’re talking about…paper, plastic, metal, cocktail straw, disposable, and the list goes on! It’s a debate that will live on into infamy, as they would say.
