Grandma Sets World Record For Longest Fingernails!
On Aug. 2, Minnesota resident Diana Armstrong won the Guinness World Record for the “longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female)” and “longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (female).”
What do you even say about this one?? The Mike and Carla Show talked about it on the air, and it’s definitely odd, but people have their reasons – and this woman definitely has a reason for doing what she’s doing.
Diana is 63 yeas old, and has a combined nail length of 42 feet, 10.4 inches. The last time Armstrong used a nail clipper was in 1997!!
In an interview with Guinness World Records, Armstrong said the reason she never cut them again was after her 16-year-old daughter died from an asthma attack in her sleep. She would manicure Armstrong’s nails every week.
Why does she do it? “Anytime I thought about cutting them off, it gave me chills like I’m going through that grief again,” Armstrong said. “I didn’t want to go through that again, so I just kept them. It’s like keeping her close to me.”
Armstrong also discussed the difficulties of grabbing things since her nails are so long. If there is something on the floor, she will ball it up or curl it up, and use her toes. If she has to pick up a phone or something, she will cross them up and pick it up. I’m sure it would take a bit – no, a LOT – of getting used to, but she has been doing this for a while, so this is commonplace for her.
Armstrong says that she wants to give people an important message through her nail journey. “I tell people, you shouldn’t judge people because you never know what people have gone through,” Armstrong said. Enjoy the segment from this morning and find out if Carla Rea would even grow her finger nails out to at least challenge the record…enjoy!
It’s definitely a sight to see, and you can see Diana’s nails here and here
Again – everyone has their reasons.
