Two Las Vegas Properties Ban People Under 21
Is Las Vegas turning into a citywide kid-free zone? Well, two resort properties have already moved in that direction. Circa Las Vegas and the El Cortez both don’t allow anyone under the age of 21 to be on their properties. As reported by the Review Journal, Circa’s owner, Derek Stevens, tweeted back in 2020 the change to their rules and the El Cortez began to follow suit earlier this year. By the end of 2022, El Cortez will fully be an adult-only property, with extra security guards and fewer entrances to enforce the new rules.
So why are these businesses turning their backs on the kiddos? Well, for some it’s just a matter of logic. Neither the Circa nor the El Cortez have any amenities to engage the younger crowds. El Cortez General Manager Adam Wiesberg was interviewed by the Review Journal and said:
“The decision to go 21 and older is an easy one with very few, if any, negatives and a whole lot of positives. We’re all family people here, we have kids and we love kids, but when they come into the casino, there’s no pool, there’s no arcade, there’s no food court per se, there’s no shows or any entertainment for anyone under 21, and there’s no real space that isn’t serviced by a bar or gaming in very close proximity. So when kids enter the property, it’s all challenge and no benefit to us.”
And to be honest, it’s probably all challenge for any parents who want to relax or play casino games. Bored kids don’t make for a fun outing. So if you live in or are coming to Las Vegas, make sure you pick a property to stay in or play at that has something to keep your youngster entertained.
