Amber Heard attends the premiere of Warner Bros. Pictures' "Aquaman" at TCL Chinese Theatre on December 12, 2018 in Hollywood, California.

Despite yesterday’s (June 14) report that Amber Heard was fired from her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, a source told Variety that she hasn’t been cut from the movie.

“Warner Bros. decided to recast Amber Heard‘s role after screentesting the movie. They are going to be doing reshoots with Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman,” an insider shared to Just Jared, adding that the new actress would play Mera in Aquaman 2 and any future DC films.

A spokesperson for Heard debunked the rumor, telling Variety, “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive and slightly insane.”

As we earlier reported, Heard apparently has less than ten minutes of screen time in the sequel. Additionally, Heard’s Mera was almost not brought back for the second installment due to concerns over her chemistry with lead actor Jason Momoa.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now expected to open in theaters on March 17, 2023.
