A year after Journey's (latest) separation of players, a settlement has been reached. In March of 2020, keyboardist Jonathan Cain and guitarist Neal Schon fired bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith. Cain and Schon accused the latter two of trying to get rights to the band name. The accusation alleged that Valory and Smith had a board meeting without Schon and Cain, in an attempt to take over.

Cain and Schon sued for $10million in damages. The band did not give details about the exact amount awarded, if any, but they did say the settlement was amicable. Most notable, however, was the way they wished their formers bandmates well, ensuring they weren't looking to reconcile anytime soon. Schon now remains the only original member of the band.
