Lionel Richie appeared in Rolling Stone Magazine recently. The four-time Grammy winner interviewed from his home in Los Angeles. You wouldn't know it by the success that Richie has enjoyed, but he grew up in a very trying time. His childhood was spent in Alabama during a time of segregation, and he attributes his success to his parents. He says they sheltered him from the reality of life at that time only so he didn't see limitations on what he was able to do.

Richie also spoke of the time he met Nelson Mandela, at a time when Mandela was just released from prison. Richie was touched by Mandela's approach of embracing peace and love over anger and hate. And something Mandela said brought Richie to tears. Read the whole interview at rollingstone.com.
