Melissa Etheridge is experiencing unspeakable sadness: her son 21-year-old son, Beckett Cypher, has died.

Etheridge's camp announced ago on Twitter, "We’re sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today. - #TeamME"

No word on what lead to the young adult's death.

Etheridge and ex-partner Julie Cypher had two children via artificial insemination during their partnership. Their daughter, Bailey Jean, was born in February 1997, and Beckett in November 1998. For a while, the couple was reluctant to discuss who fathered the kids but they eventually revealed rock singer David Crosby as the biological father of both children.

Cypher and Etheridge ultimately split in September 2000.

UPDATE: Etheridge posted to social media, saying that her son died from opioid addiction.  "My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today," she wrote. "He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends. My heart is broken. I am grateful for those who have reached out with condolences and I feel their love and sincere grief. We struggle with what else we could have done to save him, and in the end we know he is out of pain now."

She added, "I will sing again, soon. It has always healed me."
