While costumes come in all kinds of varieties, there always is that one that is more popular than the rest. And the movie industry seems to be one of the biggest influencers. If a film made it huge at the box office in a certain year, you can almost bet you'll see a costume from that movie. Music is a close second in what influences the fans choices for dress-up.

So what was the hottest getup the year you were born? Cosmo recently put together a list (and slide show) of the most popular costumes since 1950. Here are the highlights:
