This latest Major League Baseball announcement is a dream come true for our own Mike O'Brian!

A field of dreams come true! As an homage to the 1989 Kevin Costner cult classic Field of Dreams, MLB is building a temporary 8,000-person stadium on the actual patch of farm land that was used for the film. The stadium, which is being built on the movie site in Dyersville, Iowa, will allow spectators to watch the White Sox play the Yankees on August 13th, 2020.

Construction begins on the stadium on August 13th, 2019—exactly one year before the game is set to take place and roughly 30 years after the film was released. It is also set to be the first ever MLB game to take place in Iowa. “As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular-season game to the site of Field of Dreams,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said. “We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa.”
