INDIO, CA - OCTOBER 15: Musician Paul McCartney performs during Desert Trip at the Empire Polo Field on October 15, 2016 in Indio, California.

Any time Paul McCartney shows up on television, it’s always magical, and his appearance on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was no exception.

Sir Paul sat down for an interview where Fallon appropriately fanned out (who wouldn’t, really?) and he recalled writing McCartney a letter when he was 10 years old and including his phone number.   Naturally, Fallon and McCartney called that old phone number, and while they didn’t reach anyone, McCartney did leave a voicemail.

McCartney also recalled the infamous “Bigger than Jesus” comment from John Lennon and the fallout.  Fallon then asked Macca about his songwriting process, which turned into an impromptu songwriting session that started off angry but ended hilariously.

Of course, McCartney was on the show to promote his latest album, Egypt Station, which he described as a sort of concept album, compared to the modern pop albums of the day, even though he worked with mega pop producer Greg Kurstin.

Naturally, you can’t go on The Tonight Show and not take part in some sort of shenanigans with Fallon, and this bit is priceless.  Fallon and McCartney surprise people touring 30 Rockefeller Center with some hilarious elevator pranks.  Their reactions are priceless!

As if that all weren’t enough, McCartney also was the show’s musical guest performing “Come On To Me.”  All in all, it was a rather perfect episode of The Tonight Show, not counting Kendall Jenner who was the second guest on the show.  (Seriously, who would want to follow Paul McCartney as a talk show guest?)
