He had one of the biggest hits of the 1980's. He's won a grammy. He's been a soap opera heartthrob. But underneath it all, Rick Springfield has been struggling with depression, nearly his whole life. It began after puberty, and got so bad at one point that he tried to kill himself. Now, years later, Springfield is opening up about his struggle, in hopes that he can make others feel less alone.

For raising awareness about depression and mental health issues, Springfield was honored yesterday in Beverly Hills. He was awarded the 2018 Beatrice Stern Media Award by Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, who have been helping people deal with mental health and substance issues for over 70 years.
