Michael McDonald Talks Touring with Boz Scaggs
Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs are back on the road together this summer, continuing a touring association that dates back to 2010.
That’s when the two were part of the Dukes of September with Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen, which toured during 2010 and 2012. Since then Fagen has been concentrating on Steely Dan and is playing solo shows this summer, but McDonald and Skaggs continue to tour together on occasion, which McDonald says is a rewarding situation for both men:
“I really enjoy touring with Boz. Boz’s band is great; They’re just a world-class rhythm section band. And whenever we play with Boz we find it really kind of lifts our bar a little. And we always want to make sure that we’re doing the best show that we possibly can, because we know we’re gonna take the stage with those guys. And they just do such a great show pretty much all the time. Boz is a highly tuned professional, y’know, performer. He’s been doing it for so many years, and he always, in my experience, has had a stellar band, great musicians.”
McDonald and Skaggs are on the road together through mid-August, while McDonald will be touring again during the fall to promote his new album, “Wide Open,” which comes out September 15 and is his first set of all-new material in nearly a decade.
