As Journey accepted their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction last night, one question lingered on every fan's mind: Will Steve Perry perform? It's been whispered about ever since the announcement of Journey's induction was made last year. And for weeks the music news reporters were going crazy with this story. Just five hours before the ceremony started, TMZ reported Perry would sing with Journey. The roller coaster ride continued when Journey's guitarist, Neal Schon, just a few hours later tweeted that the TMZ news was false. What a ride. But, did Steve Perry perform with Journey???
Unfortunately, he did not. Perry took the stage with his former band to accept the award, gave an incredibly classy shout out to Arnel Pineda, and then stepped aside and let Arnel do his thing. But I'm sure it was a touching moment for all fans to see Steve up there with the guys.
And what a night for Arnel Pineda! Though he has been Journey's lead singer for a decade, Arnel had never met his idol until last night, and Arnel was just beside himself. Here's his instagram post about the moment he finally got to meet Steve Perry:
One of the sweetest hug you can ever get from one of my heroes and silent mentors..it means the world to me..waited 35 years for this moment..thank you Almighty God!! #TheVoice #StevePerry #oneofthemostmemorable #maximumblessings Thank you so much Mr Steve Perry for your priceless words and graciousness.. @taratogs @curachalang @yulsession @journeymusicofficial
What a cool night for everyone involved. Can't wait to see the show! It airs April 29th at 8pm on HBO.
